Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team (7-6-0, 6-3-0 RMAC) cruised to a 2-0 victory against Black Hills State University (0-13-0, 0-8-0 RMAC) Sunday, October 15.
The Roadrunners controlled the momentum from the start. In the first half, the ball rarely crossed midfield as MSU Denver unleashed a relentless offensive attack. The Roadrunners were inches from scoring when sophomore
Makenna Brassard (Thornton, CO/Horizon H.S.) headed a ball off the crossbar from a corner kick in the seventh minute.
At 28:32 the Roadrunners took a 1-0 lead when freshman Samantha Bailey sent a cross to junior
Reigna Banks (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.) who scored on a two-touch finish. The goal is Banks' fifth on the season.
MSU Denver recorded five shots-on-goal on an impressive 17 total shots. The Roadrunners played stingy defense and refused to let the Yellow Jackets shoot the ball once in the first half.
Black Hills State University goalkeeper, sophomore Therese Wilhelmi, made four tough saves in the first half.
The second half began similarly to the first half. Once again, the Roadrunners had all momentum and control of the ball. At 71:13 MSU Denver extended their lead to 2-0.
Freshman
Delainee Evans (Lakewood, CO/Lakewood High School) scored the second goal for the Roadrunners for her first goal as a Roadrunner. She ripped a shot from outside the 18-yard box that seemed to confuse goalie Wilhelmi. She watched the ball go by as if it were about to roll wide left of the goal, but the ball collided with the post and bounced into the goal.
MSU Denver finished with nine shots-on-goal on a total of 29 shots for the whole game. The Yellow Jackets posted one shot-on-goal on a total of two shots.
The Roadrunners travel to Gunnison, Colorado to take on Western State Colorado University Friday, October 20 at 3 pm.
