Men’s Soccer: MSU Denver Pulls Off Comeback Win Against Westminster

Beck scores game winner in 81st minute

Salt Lake City - The Metropolitan State University of Denver came back to defeat  Westminster College (Utah) (4-10, 2-8-1 RMAC) 3-2 on Friday, October 20. The Roadrunners improved to 8-7 overall and 8-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Westminster came out of the gates strong, putting pressure on the Roadrunners defense right away. The Griffins posted three shots in the first fifteen minutes of the half. However, as the game settled the Roadrunners began to create their own chances in their offensive half.

The first half seemed to be a balanced half between the two sides all around until the 37th minute when the Griffins were able to put one past the Roadrunners. The goal came from inside the 18-yard box from Amit Hefer, scoring his third goal of the season.

The beginning of the second half was eventful with the Roadrunners scoring the equalizer just three minutes into the half. Freshman Teo Jukic scored his second goal of the season from the penalty spot in the 18-yard box.

The Griffins were quick to answer scoring a go-ahead goal just minutes when a through ball was send behind the back line to Brigham Jackson who was able to finish and put his team up 2-1.

MSU Denver continued to press for the equalizer, firing six shots the next fifteen minutes.  Freshman Mortiz Walther was able to find it for his team in the 66th minutes hitting a rocket form 35 yards out.

It appeared that the game may head in to overtime, however, junior Kevin Beck score the difference maker in the 81st minute for the Roadrunners to take home a 3-2 win over the Griffins.

The Roadrunners will travel to Colorado Mesa to play the Mavericks at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 22.
