Grand Junction, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team (8-8, 8-4 RMAC) fell 1-0 to No. 21 Colorado Mesa (13-2-1, 9-2-1 RMAC) to wrap up its weekend road trip.
The first half was slow to get started as the first shot didn't come till nine minutes in from the Mavericks.
That was the story for much of the first half until late, when the Mavericks struck in the 40
th minute. Matthew Miller was able to follow up on a shot from his team mate to score off the rebounded shot, putting the Mavericks up 1-0.
The shots on goal count was 3-0 in favor of Colorado Mesa heading into halftime.
The Roadrunners started off the second half strong. Freshman Mortiz Walther posted a shot on goal just two minutes into the half, but goal keeper Briley Guarnei was able to make the save.
Sophomore
Yannick Schad (Munich, Germany/Theodolinden-Gymnasium) had a promising chance for the Roadrunners in the 81
st minute taking a shot that bounced off the post.
Despite a great effort in the final minutes the Roadrunners were unable to get one past the Mavericks defense.
The Roadrunners finished with 14 shots to the Mavericks 16, landing one on goal. Freshman Tucker Sneider made four saves for the Roadrunners.
MSU Denver will return home to host Westminster College (Utah) on Thursday, October 26 at 4 p.m.
