Volleyball: MSU Denver Earns 3-0 Win Over South Dakota Mines

Roadrunners win in three sets

Rapid City, South Dakota- The Metropolitan State University of Denver volleyball team(15-7, 1, 12-2 RMAC) defeated South Dakota Mines (3-20, 1-11 RMAC) in three sets on Friday, October 27.
 
Despite a slow start to the first set the Roadrunner maintained control of the first game. After an early 9-3 lead from the Hardrockers the Roadrunners fought back.  South Dakota Mines kept a lead early on in the first game until the Roadrunners tied the set up at 15. The remainder of the set was close between the two sides but the Roadrunners were able to come up victorious with a 25-21 win.
 
The Roadrunners remained in control in the second set.  Besides a close early lead for the Hardrockers, the Roadrunners were able to maintain a lead throughout the set. After an 14-11 lead MSU Denver extended its lead to remain in control of the game and would go on to win the set 25-15.
 
The Roadrunners sustained the momentumn into the third set to take the match.  MSU Denver took the third set by a score of 25-17.
 
MSU Denver was led offensively by junior Saintaisha Sturges, finishing the night with a double double with 16 kills and 15 digs.  Junior Taylor Duryea (Logan, Utah/Sky View High School) posted eight kills for the Roadrunners and freshman Alexis Benda (Las Cruces, N.M./Orate H.S.) finished the night with a season high seven kills.
 
The Roadrunners will return to action Saturday, October 28 at Black Hills State University at 5:30 p.m.
