Women’s Soccer: Second Half Goal Pushes Rangers Past Roadrunners

Roadrunners fall 1-0

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team (8-9, 7-5 RMAC) fell 1-0 to Regis (13-2-2, 11-0-1 RMAC) in its final regular season Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game.

The first half was a great battle between the two sides. Regis had a very promising chance in the eighth minute taking a shot from inside the Roadrunners 18-yard box but sophomore Eric Torres made a great save to keep a clean slate.

The rest of the half was scoreless with both teams pressing the other to go ahead.  At half the Rangers had two shots on goal to the Roadrunners one.

MSU Denver brought contagious energy to the second half pressing the Rangers defense early on.  A great chance came for the Roadrunners off a corner three minutes into the half.  Sophomore Makenna was able to connect with a ball from Senior Elise Boisnard (Denver, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.), but the Rangers back line made the save to keep the score 0-0.

The difference maker came in the 67th minute for the Rangers, when a cross from the right side sailed into the box for Rikki Fix to connect on a diving touch, finding the far side of the net.

Despite a great effort the Roadrunners were unable to find the equalizer, ending the game 1-0.

The Roadrunners will play in the quarterfinals of the RMAC tournament on Tuesday, October 31.
