Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver volleyball team (8-6, 5-1 RMAC) defeated UCCS (8-7, 5-2 RMAC) in four sets on Tuesday, October 3.
 
MSU Denver had three players post double digit kills in the 3-1 win over UCCS.  Junior 
Santaisha Sturges (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) led the match with 17 kills.  Junior 
Taylor Duryea (Logan, Utah/Sky View High School) added 14 for her team Junior 
Stephanie Laraway (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood H.S.) ended the night with 13.  Senior 
Alyssa Svalberg (Aurora, Colo./Grandview H.S.) had 45 assists for the Roadrunners
 
The first game of the match set the precedent for the entire match with it being a close battle between the two sides.  The largest lead of the set came for the Mountain Lions at 21-17 with each side trading points throughout the whole game.   
 
The Roadrunners showed a great fight with a kill from junior 
Santaisha Sturges (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) starting a run to score the next four of five points, bringing the score to 22-21 in favor of the Mountain Lions. However, the Mountain Lions took the momentum and finished the set on top 25-22.
 
MSU Denver went into the second game on fire, taking a large 9-1 lead early into the set. The set continued to be dominated by the Roadrunners, continuing to extend its lead throughout the set to not allow the Mountain Lions any offensive spark.  The Roadrunners went on to win the set by 12, tying the match at one game a piece. 
 
The Roadrunners carried the fight into the third set with the Mountain Lions matching the play for most of the set as well. The game stayed within two to three points until the Roadrunners offense carried them to a six-point lead at 19-13. UCCS made an attempt at a comeback, but the Roadrunners were able to finish the set with a 25-17 win.
 
The beginning of the fourth set appeared to be a close battle, but the Roadrunners were able to explode taking a huge 20-10 lead over the Mountain Lions and would go on to take the last game 25-17 for the 3-1 win.
 
The Roadrunners will host Westminster College (Utah) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
