Men's Basketball: Roadrunners Fall to Texans

Roadrunners fall 89-78

Stephenville, Texas- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team fell to Tarleton State in its first game of the 2017-18 season. 

Junior Enrique Cortes Zotes gave the Roadrunners a great start to the game with a three pointer on the first play of the game.  Cortes-Zotes would go on to score the first seven points for the Roadrunners taking a 7-2 lead. 

A three pointer from senior Cameron Williams (Omaha, Nebraska/Omaha South H.S.) would put the Roadrunners up 10-4 in the first half. 

Following a 12-9 Roadrunners lead, the Texans went on to steal the lead. MSU Denver bounced back to take a 27-19 lead with 9:09 remaining in the quarter. 

The Texans were able to take a 8-0 lead to tie the game up at 27. Following a shot from downtown, the Texans went on to take a 30-27 lead. 

A three pointer for Jaryn Taylor (Yucaipa, Calif./Yucaipa High School) would take the lead back at 32-30 with 6:22 left in the first half. A three pointer from Williams would
extend the Roadrunners lead to 35-30. 

The Texans were able to fight the rest of the half to send the game tied at 41 at the end of the first half. 

A lay up from Cortes-Zotes got the second half going for the Roadrunners and a three pointer from sophomore Alvaro Reyes-Abad (Malaga, Spain/I.E.S. Felo Manzon Grau Basas) would extend the early second half lead to 5.

The Roadrunners maintained a lead and led by as many as 14 in the half. However, the Texans made a great comeback and were able to maintain the lead throughout the rest of the game and took the 89-78 win. 

The Roadrunners were led by Alec Williams with 17 points. Taylor finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds for his team. Cameron Williams (Omaha, Nebraska/Omaha South H.S.) finished with 14 points and sophomore, Alvaro Rayes-Abad, finished with 12 points.

The Roadrunners will take on Angelo State tomorrow at 2 pm CT.
