Commerce, Texas- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team fell 73-51 to Lubbock Christian on Saturday, November 11 to wrap up its first road trip of the 2017-18 season.
The first quarter remained close between the two sides until the Lady Chaps made a run to take a eight point lead. Junior
Emily Hartegan (Wylie, Texas/Wylie East H.S.) drained a jumped to bring the Roadrunners back within six heading into the second quarter.
The Lady Chaps continued to extend their lead into the second quarter, leading by as many at 13 in the second quarter, but the Roadrunners were able to cut the lead to five with just over a minute left in the first quarter.
Lubbock Christian led by seven heading into half time. Hartegan led the Roadrunners in the first half with eight points and two rebounds. Junior
Jaelynn Smith (Denver, Colo./East H.S.) posted seven points with three boards.
The Lady Chaps started the third quarter scoring the first three points of the quarters. A layup from senior
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) and a made three pointer from Smith brought the Roadrunners back within five with just under a minute into the quarter.
However, the Lady Chaps continued to push on, and would take that momentum into the last quarter of the game where they were able to break away from the Roadrunners to take the win 71-53.
Ohrdorf led the Roadrunners with 14 points. Hartegan and Smith finished the night with 10. Smith finished with a team high six rebounds.
The Roadrunners will take on University of Sioux Falls next Friday, November 17 at 3 p.m. in Golden, Colo.
