Women’s Basketball: Five Roadrunners Post Double Digits in Win Over Central Washington

Roadrunners win 76-65

Golden, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team (2-2) defeated Central Washington (1-3) on Saturday to earn its second win of the weekend.
 
Central Washington came ready to play in the first quarter, holding the Roadrunners to just two points in the opening minutes and scoring nine to take an early 9-2 lead. But the Roadrunners answered back going on a 10-3 run of their own with J'Nae Squires-Horton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek H.S.) hitting back-to-back threes to cut the lead to 14-12.
 
The Wildcats went into the second quarter with a one-point lead, but the Roadrunners exploded several minutes into the quarter going on a 15-3 run to take a nine-point lead with just under three minutes to go in the half.
 
The Wildcats were able to cut the lead to five heading into half time. The Roadrunners shot 40 percent from the field in the first half and Squires Horton led the Roadrunners with 11 points. Senior Mikala Gordon (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo H.S.) had 9 first half points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Roadrunners took over in the second half, taking a 16-point lead over the Wildcats to end the third quarter and shooting 43 percent from the field.
 
The momentum continued into the fourth quarter with the largest lead coming for the Roadrunners early in the fourth quarter at 60-42.  Despite an effort for a comeback, the Wildcats were unable to catch the Roadrunners with the Roadrunners taking the win 76-65.
 
Gordon finished the game with a huge double double for the Roadrunners with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Senior Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) finished the game with 18 points and five points.  Squires-Horton also finished the game with 15 points.
 
MSU Denver will host Bemidji State next Friday, November 24 at 5 p.m. in its first home game of the season.
