Women’s Basketball: MSU Denver Controls Bemidji State to Earn 71-51 Win

Roadrunners earn 71-51 win over Beavers

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team (3-2) defeated Bemidji State (1-3) 71-51 to earn its first home win of the season.
 
The Beavers connected eight from the field in the first quarter of the game, but the Roadrunners held them to just nine more total in the rest of the game to control the tempo of the game.
 
Bemidji got off to hot start beginning the game with three straight threes to jump out to an early 9-0 lead over the Roadrunners. However, MSU Denver went on to bring the game within four following a shot from downtown by senior J'nae Squires-Horton.
 
The Roadrunners carried the momentum the following minutes talking their first lead of the quarter with just under four minutes remaining. A final shot from junior Jaelynn Smith (Denver, Colo./East H.S.) would end the first quarter with the Roadrunners on top 22-20.
 
MSU Denver dominated the second quarter holding the Beavers to just three points and shooting seven percent in the quarter.  MSU Denver extended its lead to 34-23 heading into halftime.
 
The Roadrunners out-rebounded the Beavers 31-12 in the first half. Senior Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) led both teams with 12 first half points.
 
The third quarter belonged to the Roadrunners as well, with the team going on a 15-0 run a minute into the quarter to take a 51-27 lead over the Beavers. MSU Denver finished the quarter shooting 47 percent from the field and holding the Beavers to 36 percent.
 
The Roadrunners were able to go into the fourth quarter with a solid 15-point lead over Bemidji.
 
The Beavers were only able to cut the lead to 12 in the fourth quarter with the Roadrunners contining to push, earning the 20-point win at 71-51.
 
Smith nearly ended with a triple double for the Roadrunners, scoring 11 points and adding nine rebounds and eight assist. Ohrdorf ended the game with 17 points for her team.  MSU Denver finished the night out rebounding Bemidji 55-25.
 
The Roadrunners will take on William Jewell on Saturday, November 25 at 5 p.m.
