Men’s Basketball: MSU Denver Takes Down Chadron State

Roadrunners defeat Eagles 75-59.

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team defeated Chadron State 75-59 on Friday, February 10. The Roadrunners improved to 15-9 overall and 11-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Eagles fell to 2-20 overall and 2-16 in conference.
 
The Roadrunners were led by junior Peter Møller (Værløse, Denmark/Falkonergårdens Gymnasium) completed a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Brian Howard (Maywood, Ill./Saint Ignatius H.S.) led in points with 22 points going 6-10 from the field and 4-5 from beyond the arch.  Junior Cameron Williams (Omaha, Nebraska/South H.S.) added 10 points for the Roadrunners.
 
The Roadrunners battled it out with the Eagles during the first half with each team exchanging buckets.  Brian Howard (Maywood, Ill./Saint Ignatius H.S.) caught fire half way through the half having eight straight points for the Roadrunners putting his team up five.
 
Howard scored one from downtown to kick start an 11-2 run putting the Roadrunners up 12 with 4:19 left in the half.
 
Following two back to back threes from juniors Shane Fox (Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty H.S.) and Peter Møller (Værløse, Denmark/Falkonergårdens Gymnasium) the Roadrunners continued to pressure the Eagles offensively going up 18 for the largest lead of the half.
 
Chadron went on a 5-0 with 38 second left in the half to cut the lead to 10 at 39-29 going into half. MSU Denver shot 50 percent from the field and 52 percent from beyond the arch in the first half while holding Chadron to 40 percent from the field and 44 percent from the three. Howard led all scorers at half with 14.
 
MSU Denver brought energy to the second half. Møller started off the half by scoring the first six points of the half for the Roadrunners. The following minutes went back and forth between the two sides.
 
The Eagles cut the lead to eight with 7:26 to go in the half but that proved to be the smallest lead of the half for MSU Denver. The Roadrunners held the Eagles scoreless for over four minutes going on a 14-0 run the larges lead of the game at 22.
 
Chadron 8-0 run with a minute left but that wouldn't be enough as MSU Denver gained the win 75-59.
 
The Roadrunners will take to the court tomorrow at the Auraria Events Center where they will face Regis University at 7 p.m.
