Women’s Basketball: Roadrunner Fly Past Eagles

MSU Denver defeat Chadron State 74-66.

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team (15-10, 11-11 RMAC) defeated Chadron State (6-15, 6-12 RMAC) 74-66 on Friday night.
 
The Roadrunners were led in scoring by Junior Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) with 25 points. She was followed by junior J'Nae Squires-Horton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek H.S.) with 15 points. MSU Denver had 50 rebounds to Chadron States 30. The Roadrunners held the Eagles to only 3 lead changes in the game.
 
MSU Denver came out on fire, going on a 9-2 run to start the first quarter. Ohrdorf and Squires-Horton combined for all the first nine Roadrunners points.
 
Chadron scored a layup with 5:29 to go in the quarter that would end up being the final points of the quarter for the Eagles as the Roadrunners went on a 6-0 run to finished the quarter up 15-4.
 
The second quarter went back and forth between the two sides, however the Roadrunners never lost their lead and sent the game into half 25-15. At half the Roadrunners were led by Ohrdorf with eight first half points. MSU Denver shot 38 percent from the field in the half and held the Eagles to 24 percent. The Roadrunners out rebounded the Eagles in the first half 26- 17.
 
Chadron showed energy to begin the second half scoring a quick six points to cut the Roadrunners lead to 4. The Roadrunners had a slow third quarter only scoring 18 points with Chardon scoring 28 and cutting the MSU Denver lead.
 
The Eagles tied the game with two minutes left in the quarter. MSU Denver broke the tie again, however the Eagles continued to fight back continuing even the score.
 
Ohrdorf began the quarter with two layups breaking the tie. Both teams fought hard throughout the fourth quarter but no matter how hard the Eagles tried the Roadrunners found a way to keep the lead. With 1:06 to go Ohrdrof made a break through for the Roadrunners converting a three-point play to put the Roadrunners up by seven.
 
The women's basketball team will return to the Auraria Event Center Saturday February 11th where they will face Regis University at 5p.m.
