Lakewood, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's and women's tennis team played at Colorado Christian on Friday, March 10 to continue Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The men defeated the Cougars 9-0. The women defeated the Cougars 8-1.
In the sweep of the men's doubles junior
Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) and sophomore
Joey Tscherne (Sylmar, Calif./John F. Kennedy H.S.) defeated their opponents 8-3. Senior
Sam Stember (Melbourne, Fla./Satellite H.S.) and sophomore
Keenan Kaltenbacher (Colorado Springs, Colo./The Classical Academy) took their doubles match 8-6. Junior
Calum Hayes (Leeds, England/Guiseley H.S.) and freshman
Alejandro Martinez-Morilla (Madrid, Spain/I.E. Valdecas) completed the doubles sweep winning 8-1.
The Roadrunners completed a clean sweep in the singles matches as well with Graetz taking the No. 1 singles and Tscherne taking the No. 2 singles, both winning in two sets 6-0, 6-1. Martinez-Morilla won his singles match 6-2, 6-0. Stember defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-2. Kaltenbacher took his match in two sets 6-0, 6-1. Hayes rounded out the scoring winning 6-0, 6-0.
On the women's side, the Roadrunners also completed a sweep on the doubles side. Juniors
Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) and
Emily Kerr (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) defeated their opponents 8-3. Freshmen
Tabitha Porter (Norwich, England/Northcote College) Valerie Valencia (Playas de Tijuana, Mexico/Bonita VIsta High School) took their doubles match 8-2. Senior
Ana-Jelena Vujosevic (Milano, Italy/Skednja Ekonomska Skola) and freshman
Ainsley Winterrowd (Lacey, Washington/North Thurston High School) finished the sweep taking their match 8-2.
In singles the Roadrunners won five of the six matches. Valencia earned the No.1 singles win in three sets 2-6, 6-1, 10-7. In No. 2 singles Porter won in two sets 6-0, 6-0. Kerr defeated her opponent in two sets 6-1, 6-3. Winterrowd was defeated in the No. 4 singles 6-3, 7-6(3). Freshman
Mackenzie Hotan (Beaverton, Oregon/Southridge High School) won in two sets 6-0, 6-3. Vujosevic took her match in two sets 6-3, 6-1.
Both teams will compete tomorrow Saturday, March 11 against CSU-Pueblo in Pueblo, Colo.
