Dallas, Texas- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's and women's tennis team competed against St. Edward's University on Friday, March 24. The men's team defeated the No. 30 Hilltoppers 5-3 while the women took a 5-4 win over No. 43 St. Edward's.

The Roadrunners won one of three matches in doubles competition on the men's side. Senior
Josh Graetz and sophomore
Joey Tscherne took No. 1 doubles 8-1. Senior
Sam Stember and sophomore
Keenan Kaltenbacher fell in their match 8-1. Junior
Calum Hayes and freshman
Alejandro Martinez-Morilla fell 8-6.

In singles competition the Roadrunners took four matches. Graetz won No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-2. Tscherne stole his match in two sets 6-2, 6-2. Martinez-Morilla took his match for the Roadrunners 7-6 (10-8), 6-3. Stember fell in his match 6-4, 6-2. Kaltenbacher took the final win for MSU Denver in a three set battle 1-6, 7-6(7-5), 6-3. Hayes match ended unfinished.

On the women's side the Roadrunners took two of the three doubles matches. Juniors
Courtney Wright and
Emily Kerr won their match 8-5. Junior
Linying Xiao and freshman
Tabitha Porter fell in their doubles match 8-6. Freshman
Valerie Valencia and senior
Ana-Jelena Vujosevic won a battle in their doubles matches 9-8 (7-5).

The Roadrunners took three of the six singles. Valencia won No. 1 singles in two sets 6-4, 6-3. Porter took her match 6-3, 6-0. Wright took the third win for the Roadrunners 6-3, 6-2. Kerr fell in her match 6-3, 6-1. Xiao was defeated in three sets 7-5, 6-7 (6-8), 1-0 (10-7). Freshman
Ainsley Winterrowd fell in ther singles match 6-2, 6-1.

"It was a great win for both programs," said head coach Daniel Hangstefer. "Both team were warriors, playing with a ton of heart and fight. They responded extremely well to the challenges that I threw at them today, going out and competing at a high level."

The Roadrunners will complete their road trip against Western New Mexico Saturday, March 25.
