Colorado Springs, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's tennis team fell 6-1 at Air Force Academy on Sunday, March 5.
The Roadrunners fell in all three doubles matches. Juniors
Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) and
Emily Kerr (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) fell in their doubles match 6-1. Freshman
Mackenzie Hotan (Beaverton, Oregon/Southridge High School) and junior
Linying Xiao (Guilin, China/St. Mary's Academy (Colo.)) fell 6-3 in doubles. Freshman
Tabitha Porter (Norwich, England/Northcote College) and
Valerie Valencia (Playas de Tijuana, Mexico/Bonita VIsta High School) fell 4-3 but did not finish as the doubles point was already decided.
MSU Denver fell in five of the six singles matches. Porter fell 6-2, 6-2. Valencia fell in her singles match 6-3, 6-2. Kerr was defeated 6-0, 6-0. Xiao took the only singles match win in a close three set match 3-6, 6-4, 13-11. Freshman
Ainsley Winterrowd (Lacey, Washington/North Thurston High School) fell in her singles match 6-7(9), 7-6, 10-7. Senior
Ana-Jelena Vujosevic (Milano, Italy/Skednja Ekonomska Skola) was defeated 6-2, 6-1.
"There are many positives to take from the match against Air Force," said head coach
Daniel Hangstefer. " Air Force is a very disciplined program and playing teams like them will only make us better. The team continues to take strides in the right direction."
The Roadrunners will continue Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on Friday, March 10 as they take on Colorado Christian in Lakewood, Colo.
