Women’s Tennis: MSU Denver Wins 2017 RMAC Tournament Championship

Roadrunners defeat Mavericks 5-3

Denver - The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's tennis team won the 2017 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament championship against Colorado Mesa 5-3 on Sunday, April 23. This marks the first tournament championship win on the women's side since 2004.
 
In doubles the women fell in two of the three matches. Freshman Tabitha Porter and Valerie Valencia won the No. 2 singles against the Mavericks 8-3.
 
Doubles Results:
  1. Kristen Kirby/Katie Kirby (CMU) def. Wright/Kerr (MSUD): 8-6
  2. Porter/Valencia (MSUD) def. Beckley/Hershey (CMU): 8-3
  3. Kitsuse/Hansen (CMU) def. Xiao/ Vujosevic (MSUD): 9-7
 
The women clinched the championship in singles by winning four of the six singles matches, with one match going unfinished.

  1. Kristen Kirby (CMU) def. Valencia (MSUD): 6-4, 6-0
  2. Porter (MSUD) def. Beckley (CMU): 6-0, 6-0
  3. Wright (MSUD) def. Katie Kirby (CMU): 6-0, 6-2
  4. Kerr (MSUD) def. Hershey (CMU): 6-4, 4-2 unfinished
  5. Xiao (MSUD) vs. Kitsuse (CMU): 6-2, 6-3
  6. Winterrowd (MSUD) vs. Hansen (CMU): 6-3, 7-5
 
MSU Denver women will await the NCAA regional rankings to see if the team will get a bid into the 2017 NCAA tournament.
