Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team split day two of its four game series against Regis University. The Roadrunners fell in game one 3-1, but bounced back to take game two 2-1. The Roadrunners are now 28-11 overall and 20-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Rangers are now 21-19 overall and 13-11 in conference play.

In game one, senior
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) started on the mound for the Roadrunners. Regis scored first in game one, putting two runs up in the first inning, both off sacrifice hits.

The Roadrunners were held to just one hit through the sixth inning when the team made it on the board. Senior
Hayley Fields (Arlington, Wash./Arlington H.S.) reached base on a single, followed by junior
Annika Anderson (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) reaching base on a walk. Sophomore
Carissa Terry (Moreno Valley, Calif./Valley View H.S.) then reached base on a fielders choice, shadowed by junior
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.) hitting an RBI single to score Anderson and cut the Rangers lead to 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Regis matched MSU Denver's sixth inning, scoring one run to extend the lead to 3-1. Â That would prove to be enough, as the Roadrunners were unable to make a comeback in the top of the seventh inning.

In game two of the double header, Fields lead off the game hitting a triple to left center. Anderson was then able to score Fields off a sac fly for the Roadrunners to take a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the first inning.

The Roadrunners held the Rangers to just one hit through the fifth inning, while the Roadrunners tallied four but were held to just one run.

The Rangers were able to tie the game up leading off the bottom of the seventh inning with a homer to left field, sending the game into extra innings with the score knotted up at one run a piece.

Anderson answered back for the Roadrunners, hitting one out of the park in the ninth inning. That would win the game for the Roadrunners with a score of 2-1, after the Rangers were unable to answer in the bottom of the inning.

MSU Denver will travel to Chadron State to take on the Eagles on Friday, April 8 in a double header.
