Dallas, Texas- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team kicked off the season at Dallas Baptist on Thursday, August 31. The Roadrunners began its 2017 campaign on a high note,taking a 1-0 win against the Patriots.
The first half started off fairly even on both sides with the first shot coming in the ninth minute from Dallas Baptist. Junior
Emily Romer (Chandler, Ariz./Perry H.S.) hit the first shot of the game for the Roadrunners in the sixteenth minute.
MSU Denver was in control of the rest of the half out shooting the Patriots 7-1 with four shots on goal in the half. The difference maker came in the 42
nd minute when junior
Raegan Staib (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian H.S.) netted the first goal of the season for the Roadrunners with the assist coming from junior,
Reigna Banks (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.).
The Patriots came out on to begin the second half, earning a corner on the first play on the half. They continued to play in the Roadrunner half of the field hitting several shots at junior goalkeeper Bre Flores.
The Patriots kept putting the pressure on MSU Denver, adding six corners in the half and out-shooting the Roadrunners 9-1 in the second half. However, strong defense allowed the Roadrunners to hold off the offensive attack.
MSU Denver will wrap up its road trip on Saturday against St. Edward's in Austin, Texas.
