Roadrunners fall to Cougars 1-0

Lakewood, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team (0-5-0)  fell 1-0 to Colorado Christian (1-3-1) on Wednesday, September 13 in its 2017 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener.

The loss marks the Roadrunner's fifth straight on the season and all have come by very narrow margins, this game being no different.

Both teams put on the offensive pressure on early in the game with both sides earning a corner kick in the first five minutes of the first half.  The Roadrunners looked to have the momentum until the Cougars broke through the Roadrunners defense to score the first and what would prove to be the difference make in the game in the 23rd minutes. The goal came from 10 yards out when Larson Hanlin picked up the garbage on a shot and was able to find the back of the net from 10 yards out.

Although the men were unable to find an equalizer, the opportunities were there and they managed five shots on goal in the second half to the Cougars two in the game.

Freshman striker Teo Jukic (Sindelgingen, Germany /Stiftsgynasium) nearly broke through in the 77th minute, but was met by the equally impressive ability by the Cougars goal keeper.

The Roadrunner's managed three more opportunities that came very close to tying things up, but simply could not catch a break.

The men are looking to bounce back when they travel to Rapid City, South Dakota where they will face South Dakota School of Mines Sunday, September 17.
