Rapid City, South Dakota- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team (1-5-0) earned its first win of the season against South Dakota Mines(2-1-2) on Sunday, September 17. The Roadrunners defeated the Hardrockers 3-2.

Freshman
Nils Runnberg scored the winning goal in the 84
th minute to seal the 3-2 victory for the Roadrunners.

MSU Denver put the offensive pressure on the Hardrockers early on in the first half earning penalty kick in the eighth minute of the game. Sophomore
Yannick Schad stepped up for the Roadrunners to bury the PK for his first goal of the season and putting the Roadrunners up 1-0 early into the match.

Just over a minute later, the Hardrockers were rewarded an equalizer penalty kick call. Justin Barkow was able to find the back of the net to tie the game 1-1 in the first 10 minutes of the half.

The Roadrunners continued to press the Hardrockers earning several corner kicks and hitting three more shots on goal in the following 15 minutes.

In the 26
th minute of the first half, the Hardrockers were rewarded a second penalty kick to take the lead 2-1. Although the Roadrunners continued their offensive attack they were unable to find the equalizer, sending the game into halftime with South Dakota Mines on top 2-1.

The offensive pressure continued for MSU Denver to begin the second half searching for the equalizer. In the 59
th minute the Roadrunners earned their second penalty kick, with it being the fourth PK call of the game. Schad was able to find the back of the net for his second of the day, tying the game up at two.

The score remained tied for majority of the half, until the 84
th minute when Runnberg scored his first career goal for the Roadrunners on an assist from senior
Justin Glivar.

The Roadrunners will return home to host Colorado Christian on at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20 at the Regency Athletic Complex.Â
