Women's Soccer: MSU Denver Falls Late to No. 18 Colorado School of Mines

Roadrunners fall 2-0

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team (1-3, 0-1 RMAC) ran out of steam against the Orediggers from the Colorado School of Mines (4-1, 1-0 RMAC) in its 2017 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference openeer.  MSU Denver hung tough, but eventually fell 2-0.

The Roadrunners and Orediggers battled hard in a scoreless first half. MSU Denver recorded four shots, including two shots on goal by junior Reigna Banks (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.). Colorado School of Mines outshot the Roadrunners, posting two shots on goal on 10 total shots. Sophomore Erica Torres (Bakersfield, Calif./Baskersfield High School) started the game in goal for the Roadrunners and made an impressive when she snagged a header that was the result of a corner kick.

Colorado School of mines carried their offensive momentum with them into the second half, but the Roadrunner held Mines scoreless for majority of the half.

Jennifer Kendall scored the Orediggers first goal in the eighty-first minute. The goal is Kendall's third of the year.  The goal came from a deflection in the box for Kendall to find the far left side of the net making it nearly impossible for Torres to save.

Colorado School of Mines added a second goal in the eighty-fourth minute off a cross from the right side of the field for Haley Cole of the Orediggers to find the back of the net.

The Roadrunners added two more shots on goal in the second half, but struggled to create good offensive opportunities. The Orediggers added 10 more shots in the second half; seven of those shots were on goal.

MSU Denver returns to the Regency Athletic Complex Sunday September 17 for a matinee matchup against Colorado Christian University. The game will begin at noon.
