Women's Soccer: MSU Denver Earns First RMAC Win

Roadrunners win 2-0 against CCU

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team (2-4-0) defeated Colorado Christian (2-4-0) on Sunday, September 17 to earn its first win in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference for the 2017 season.

Both sides started off the game pressuring the other with the first part of the first half being seemingly even.

MSU Denver found the go-ahead goal in the 29th minute.  Senior Elise Boisnard (Denver, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) received a pass from Senior Brenda Vazquez (Denver, Colo.) in the middle of the field.  Boisnard was then able to dribble past the Cougar defense and take a beautiful shot from the right side of the box to find the far left side of the net.

The Roadrunners continued to press the Cougars defense, finding their second goal just seven minutes after the first when Vazquez picked off the ball just inside the 18-yard box and hit a great shot to the near post, finding the right side of the nets birds nest.

MSU Denver was in control of the tempo in the second half, keeping most of the possession in its offensive half. The best chance for the Cougars game in the 30th minute when a cross came into the foot of Lauren Cardoza who took a one touch shot but sophomore Erica Torres (Bakersfield, Calif./Baskersfield High School) made a great save keeping the score 2-0.

Weather made a play in the second half as there was a delay with 11:05 remaining in the game.

Following the delay, the Roadrunners were able to keep their 2-0 lead and earn the win.

The Roadrunners will travel to Alamosa Friday, September 22 to take on Adams State at 4 p.m.
