Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team fell 84-72 to UCCS to end its four game RMAC win streak. The Roadrunners fell to 11-9 overall and 10-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Mountain Lions improved to 9-11 overall and 6-8 in conference.
The game started off fairly even between the two teams, with neither side making any stride at a large lead. The Mountain Lions hit two back-to-back threes to take the largest lead of the half at 11-6. However, the Roadrunners answered outscoring UCCS 8-3 in the following minutes to regain a one-point lead with 12:42 remaining in the first half.
The remainder of the half proved to be a battle between the two sides with the Mountain Lions coming out on top 41-37.
The Roadrunners were held to 36 percent from the field in the first half while the Mountain Lions shot 48 percent. Senior
Cameron Williams (Omaha, Nebraska/Omaha South H.S.) led all scorers at half with 15.
UCCS came out of the gates strong to start to start the second half, outscoring the Roadrunners 15-8 in the opening six minutes to take a thirteen-point lead at 56-43.
MSU Denver answered going on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to six. However, the Mountain Lions kept executing on both ends of the court to stretch the lead to 18 with just over six minutes to play in the game after completing a 18-5 run over five minutes.
The Roadrunners were unable to catch the Mountain Lions down the stretch with UCCS running away with the 84-72 win.
Cam Williams led the Roadrunners with 26 points and six rebounds. Senior
Bounama Keita (Saint-Louis, Senegal/Impact Basketball Academy (Fla.)) ended the night with 11 points and 7 boards.
MSU Denver will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on Westminster Friday, January 26 at 7:30 p.m.
