Colorado Springs, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team earned a 70-57 win over UCCS on Saturday evening. The Roadrunners improved to 18-7 overall and 14-5 in the conference. The Mountain Lions dropped to 9-15 overall and 9-10 in the RMAC.
It was a strong team effort for MSU Denver, with five finishing in double figures for the Roadrunners including; juniors
Jaelynn Smith (Denver, Colo./East H.S.),
Emily Hartegan (Wylie, Texas/Wylie East H.S.), and
Jonalyn Wittwer (Fall Creek, Wis./Fall Creek H.S.) and seniors
J'Nae Squires-Horton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek H.S.) and
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College).
The Roadrunners took control towards the end of the first quarter going on 9-0 run and taking an 11-point lead with just under seven minutes remaining in the half.
MSU Denver was able to maintain a lead heading into half on top 26-19.
The Roadrunners remained in control in the second half never losing a convincing lead.
The team lead by as many as 17 in the fourth quarter and ended up taking the 57-45 win over the Mountain Lions.
The Roadrunners will return him next Friday to take on Colorado Christian.
