Lubbock, Texas- The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team fell in both games of a double header against Lubbock Christian on Friday, February 23. The Roadrunners fell in game one 5-0 and 9-1 in game two.
Junior
Javi Vega (Chula Vista, Calif./Castle Park H.S.) got the start on the mound for the Roadrunners in game one of the double header.
Nick Ulmer (Centennial, Colo./Garden City Community College) and
Nic Hansen (Monument, Colo./Palmer Ridge H.S.) also made appearances at pitcher in the game.
MSU Denver was held to just one hit in the game while the Chaps put up 13 against the Roadrunners.
Lubbock Christian's scoring was spread scoring one run in the first, second, and fifth inning. The Chaps would find their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the first game 5-0.
The Roadrunners jumped out to an early lead in game two scoring one in the top of the first. Seniors
Sean Kennedy (Aurora, Colo./Grandview High School) and Donny Ortiz Jr. both led off with a single. A sac fly from Senior
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) would go on to score Kennedy to take the lead.
Cade Crader (Aurora, Colo./Grandview High School) started game two for the Roadrunners at pitcher and was able to hold onto the 1-0 lead through the third inning.
Lubbock Christian had a big third inning, after loading the bases the Chaps hit one out of the park for the grand slam, taking a 4-1 lead.
The Chaps held the Roadrunners to the lone run through the rest of the game and was able to put up five more of their own to earn the 9-1 win in game two.
The series will wrap up tomorrow, Saturday with one game to be played at 1 p.m. CT.
