Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team defeated Colorado Christian on Friday, February 23. The Roadrunners improved to 15-12 overall and 14-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Cougars fell to 4-23 overall and 3-18 in conference.
Senior
Cameron Williams (Omaha, Nebraska/Omaha South H.S.) led the Roadrunners with 25 points. Junior
Jaryn Taylor (Yucaipa, Calif./Yucaipa High School) added 15 for the Roadrunners. Senior
Bounama Keita (Saint-Louis, Senegal/Impact Basketball Academy (Fla.)) led the team with seven rebounds.
Cam Williams got the game rolling knocking one in from downtown on the first possession of the game. Keita followed on the other side of the floor getting a big block to give his team a spark.
Williams would go on to score the first nine points for the Roadrunners to take a 9-5 early lead.
The Roadrunners went on several runs with two back to back threes from Taylor and
Peter Møller (Værløse, Denmark/Falkonergårdens Gymnasium) giving MSU Denver an 18-point lead with 11:48 remaining in the half.
The Roadrunners held the Cougars to just 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the half, however CCU would go on a 8-0 run with just over nine minutes remaining in the half to cut the Roadrunners lead down to 12 at 30-18.
MSU Denver would make it out of the first half with a 43-27 lead over CCU. Cam Williams led the Roadrunners with 18 first half points. The Roadrunners shot 53 percent in the first half and held the Cougars to 40 percent.
MSU Denver stayed consistent in the second half continuing to run away with the win. The Cougars only made it within 11 and the Roadrunners led by as many as 23.
The Roadrunners ran away with the 82-63 win.
MSU Denver will host Colorado School of Mines tomorrow in its last regular season game at 7 p.m.
