Pueblo, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team fell in both games of its double header against CSU-Pueblo on Sunday, February 25. The Roadrunners fell 5-4 in a walk off victory for the Thunderwolves in game one. In game two the Roadrunners fell 8-2.
Game one was a great battle between the two sides. Sophomore
Darby McGhee (Camarillo, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo High School) got the start for the Roadrunners on the mound and held the Thunderwolves scoreless through to the sixth inning.
The Roadrunners made it on the board first in the top of the sixth scoring two runs. Junior
Ashlee Kim (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) and senior Krisyn Peters both earned RBIs in the inning.
CSU-Pueblo answered in the bottom of the inning but only put up one for the Roadrunners to hold a 2-1 lead heading into the final inning.
The seventh inning proved to be exciting with MSU Denver scoring two more runs to go up 4-1 going into the bottom of the inning. However the Thunderwolves had a huge inning putting up three hits and four runs for a walk off inning taking game one 5-4.
In game two the Roadrunner got the game rolling scoring one in the top of the first inning. After
Koryna Wright (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga High School) singled up the middle for the first hit of the game, Peters fired a double to score Wright and put the Roadrunners up 1-0.
The Thunderwolves answered back in following two innings, scoring two in the bottom of the first and second to take a 4-1 lead over the Roadrunners.
CSU-Pueblo held the Roadrunner scoreless through the third and fourth inning while adding two runs, extending its lead to 6-1.
The Roadrunner would make it back on the scoreboard in the fifth however that would be the last of the scoring for MSU Denver and CSU-Pueblo took game two 8-2
Kim and Wright led the Roadrunners with four hits on the day.
The series between the Roadrunners and Thunderwolves will wrap up tomorrow, Monday with the first game of the double header starting at 11 a.m.
