Women’s Basketball: Roadrunners Rout Eagles

Roadrunners have four players score in double-figures

Chadron, Neb. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team defeated Chadron State 91-78 to improve to 17-7 overall and 13-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
The Roadrunners were led by junior Jonalyn Witter with 21 points.  Senior J'Nae Squires-Horton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sand Creek H.S.) added 16 points while seniors Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) and Mikala Gordon (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo H.S.) each added 15 points.
 
The first quarter saw the Roadrunners take a 20-15 lead.  Ohrdorf posted six points and two rebounds in the opening frame.  MSU Denver was relentless on the defensive end of the floor forcing eight turnovers in the period.
 
Chadron State continued to hang tight with the Roadrunners in the second quarter.  The Roadrunners would lead by as many as 11 in the period following a three-point basket by Wittwer with just over 5:30 remaining in the half.  MSU Denver's lead was cut to four entering halftime and the Roadrunners led 39-35 at the break.
 
The second half saw an offensive explosion for the Roadrunners.  MSU Denver put up 33 points in the third quarter.  Gordon racked up 11 points in the period.  The Roadrunners were able to extend their lead to 11 and held a 72-61 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
 
MSU Denver was able to close out the game in the in the fourth quarter.  The Roadrunners posted a 15-0 run which included four-point play by Wittwer.  MSU Denver was able to hold Chadron State without a field goal for over five minute in the period.
 
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Saturday, February 10 to take on Regis in Denver.  Game time is set for 5 p.m.
