Las Vegas, New Mexico- The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team wrapped up a four game series against New Mexico Highlands with a 22-5 win. The Roadrunners improved to 9-11 overall and 5-3 in RMAC play. The Cowboys finished the weekend with a 7-13 overall record.
New Mexico Highlands were the first to make it on the board, taking a 4-0 lead, scoring three runs in the second and one in the third.
The Roadrunners exploded in the top of the fifth inning following great series of hits. The Roadrunners scored seven runs on five hits to take a 7-4 lead.
The scoring would continue for the Roadrunners, with the team putting up 15 more runs in the following four innings. Three runs came in the sixth, six runs came in the seventh, and three in the eighth and ninth, making it the highest scoring game for the Roadrunners this season.
MSU Denver outhit the Cowboys 20-9. Donny Ortiz Jr.,
Logan Soole (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.),
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.), and
Draven Adame (Lamar, Colo. /Lamar High School) all ended the game with three hits. Donaldson led the team with six RBIs.
Beecher Strube (Casper, WY/Kelly Walsh High School) pitched seven innings for the Roadrunners allowing six innings.
The Roadrunners will return home to take on Colorado Mesa on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Regency Athletic Complex.
