Lakewood, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team fell in both games of its doubleheader against Colorado Christian on Friday afternoon. The Roadrunners fell 12-4 in game one and 9-6 in game two.
Kylie Burnside got the start for the Roadrunners in game one of the day to pitch a total of three innings for the Roadrunners
Anderson got the day rolling for the Roadrunners knocking one out of the park in the first, scoring two runs to take a 2-0 lead. MSU Denver would keep the lead and go on to extend it in the third. Following a leadoff single from junior
Ashlee Kim (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.), Anderson would earn another RBI to score Kim and take a 3-0 lead.
Colorado Christian cut the lead the 3-2 in the bottom of the third, however the Roadrunners held them to just the two runs while forcing two to be left on base for the Cougars.
The Roadrunners would score again in the fourth, senior
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.) reached base after being hit by a pitch. Sophomore
Megan Sansburn (/Dakota Ridge H.S. ) then hit a triple to score Espinoza and take a 4-2 lead.
The lead slipped for the Roadrunners in the bottom of the fourth when the Cougars went on to score five runs on four hits and a Roadrunner error, taking a 7-4 lead.
The Cougars went on to score two homers, scoring four runs in the fifth and sixth inning, taking a 11-4 lead. CCU scored one more run in the sixth to take game one 12-4.
Darby McGhee (Camarillo, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo High School) started game two of the day for the Roadrunners to pitch the six innings.
The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game two of the day.
Junior
Olivia Muniz (Westminster, Colo./Westminster H.S.) stole the lead for the Roadrunners hitting a three run bomb out of the park, taking a 3-2 lead in the top of the third.
Colorado Christian had a big third inning, scoring five runs on the Roadrunners to take the lead back.
The Roadrunners cut the lead to 7-5 scoring one run in the fifth and one in the sixth. However, the Cougars scored two in the bottom of the sixth extending the lead again.
The Roadrunner were able to put one more run up on the Cougars, but that would be the end of the scoring, with the Cougars earning the 9-6 win.
The series will wrap up tomorrow with the two sides playing a doubleheader in Lakewood at 11 a.m.
