Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team fell in its doubleheader to Colorado School of Mines on Saturday afternoon. The Roadrunners fell 4-2 in game one and 11-1 in game two of the day.
Logan Soole (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) got the start on the mound in game one of the day. Soole started the game off great earning two pick offs to get out of the first holding the Orediggers scoreless.
The Roadrunners made it on the board first off a failed pickoff attempt. The ball was thrown away, and senior
Trent Maloney (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) scored the go-ahead run.
The Orediggers took the lead in the top of the fourth, scoring two unearned runs to take a 2-1 lead.
MSU Denver tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth when Soole and senior
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) reached base on a single. Junior
Jake Kistaitis (Omaha, Nebraska/ Millard West High School) put up a sac fly to score Donaldson.
Mines took the lead again in the top of the sixth scoring two runs on two hits to take a 4-2 lead.
The Roadrunners were unable to make the comeback in the final inning with the Orediggers taking the 4-2 win.
Mines started the game with a leadoff home run in the top of the first. Sophomore pitcher
Cade Crader (Aurora, Colo./Grandview High School) was able to hold the Orediffers to the line run through the first two innings.
The Roadrunners tied the game up in the bottom of the second off a sac fly from senior Donny Ortiz Jr.
Mines held the Roadrunners to just one run and two hits through the remainder of the game and scored 11 runs on the Roadrunners to earn the win in game two.
The series between the two sides will wrap up tomorrow, Sunday, March 18 with the game being moved to 11 a.m. die to forecasted weather.
