Alamosa, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team defeated Adams State in the first game of a four-game series on Friday by a score of 16-10.

Senior
Donny Ortiz, Jr. (Littleton, CO/Columbine High School) went four-for-five on the day. He scored three runs and drove in three more. Senior
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) also hit a homerun in the game. He scored three runs, had two hits, and drove in four runs. Senior
Javi Vega (Chula Vista, Calif./Castle Park H.S.) started the game and struck-out seven batters. Senior
Trent Maloney (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) earned the win in relief.

The game would be a back-and-forth affair. Ortiz opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning with a solo homerun. The Roadrunners would trail 5-2 after the second inning. MSU Denver put up four runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning to take an 8-5 lead. Adams State would tie the game at 8-8 in the bottom of the sixth inning. MSU Denver exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead for good.

MSU Denver will face Adams State in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 24 in Alamosa. First pitch is slated for 12 noon.
