Baseball: Roadrunners Rally In Ninth To Top Grizzlies

MSU Denver Completes Four-Game Sweep Of Adams State

Alamosa, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team defeated Adams State 14-12 on Sunday to wrap up a four-game sweep of the Grizzlies.

The final game of the series was a wild one ending in dramatic fashion.  Heading into the top of the ninth inning, the game was tied at 11-11.  Junior Draven Adame (Lamar, Colo. /Lamar High School) would reach on a single followed by two ground outs.  Senior Donny Ortiz, Jr. (Littleton, CO/Columbine High School) was intentionally walked to bring up senior Trent Maloney (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.).  Maloney took full advantage of the opportunity and smashed a three-run homerun that would prove to be the deciding factor in the game.

Ortiz, Jr. went 2-for-3 in the game walking twice, scoring three times, and driving in two runs.  Maloney was 4-for-5 in the contest with seven RBIs.  Senior Cale O'Donnell (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) picked up the win coming on in relief pitching one-and-two-thirds innings allowing one run on one hit and striking out three.

The Roadrunners are now 14-15 overall and 10-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

The next game for the Roadrunners will be on Thursday, March 29 against Regis.  First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at The Regency Athletic Complex.
