Softball: Roadrunners Complete Four-Game Sweep

Richter Hits Two Homeruns On The Day

Las Vegas, N.M. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team won both games of a doubleheader on Sunday to complete the four-game sweep of New Mexico Highlands.

The Roadrunners won the first game 8-0 in five innings and the second game 14-5.  MSU Denver improves to 16-18 overall and 11-9 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

MSU Denver was able to get things going early in the first game.  The first three batters for the Roadrunners – junior Ashlee Kim (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.), sophomore Megan Sansburn (/Dakota Ridge H.S. ), and freshman Koryna Wright (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga High School) – combined to go 3-for-6 in the game, scored five runs, and had four RBIs.  Junior Kylee Burnside (Idaho Falls, Idaho/Skyline H.S.) was magnificent in the circle.  Burnside allowed only one hit by the Cowgirls and struck-out six in the game.

The second contest of the day featured more offense from the Roadrunners.  MSU Denver put up 14 runs in the game.  Nine different players scored and eight players had at least one RBI.  Sophomore Alyssa Richter (Thornton, Colo./Mountain Range H.S.) hit two solo homeruns in the game.  Freshman Destinee Lopez (La Verne, Calif. /Bonita H.S.) allowed four earned runs on seven hits.  She also struck-out five.

The next matchup for the Roadrunners will be against Regis on Friday, March 30.  The doubleheader is slated to begin at 4 p.m.  Fireworks will follow the games as part of a Military Appreciation Day celebration.
