Denver – The Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners baseball team (16-17, 12-8 RMAC) finished off their four game series against the Regis Rangers with a 7-3 loss Saturday afternoon.
Regis scored first with a solo home run in the top of the second inning and they added another three runs in the inning to take a 4-0 lead. After getting one run across in both the fourth and fifth innings, the Rangers extended their lead 6-0.
The Roadrunners cut into the Ranger lead when
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) drove in two runs in the sixth inning with a double down the right field line.
Senior
Jared Roley (Littleton, Colo./Heritage H.S.) came in relief of Strube in the fifth inning and struck out two batters and gave up just two hits. Regis added another run in the seventh inning to give them a 7-2 lead.
MSU Denver got one run back in the bottom of the seventh after
Draven Adame (Lamar, Colo. /Lamar High School) drew a leadoff walk,
Cale O'Donnell (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) hit a triple to center field scoring Adame from first.
Nick Ulmer (Centennial, Colo./Garden City Community College) also saw relief duty for the Roadrunners and faced nine batters and gave up just one hit keeping the Regis lead at four runs entering the bottom of the ninth inning.
O'Donnell earned another extra base hit when he doubled down the right field line with two outs.
Dylan Nelson (Morriaon, Colo./D'Evelyn Jr/Sr High School) hit a single to right field and scored O'Donnell and brought the final score to 7-4.
With the loss,
Beecher Strube (Casper, WY/Kelly Walsh High School) fell to 3-2 on the season.
The Roadrunners will return to action with a split series with UCCS and Regis in Colorado Springs April 6-8. The Roadrunners will play two games against both schools with the first game scheduled for 11 a.m April 6 versus UCCS.
