Colorado Springs, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team defeated Regis 7-6 on Saturday afternoon in its first game of the pod weekend.

Logan Soole (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) started on the mound for the Roadrunners and held the Rangers scoreless through six innings.
MSU Denver was the first to make it on the board in the bottom of the first with senior Donny Ortiz Jr. and Soole leading off and reaching base for the Roadrunners. Senior
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) would score Ortiz on a sacrifice fly to put his team up 1-0 to end the first.
The Roadrunners exploded in the bottom of the third extending the lead after scoring five run on two hits and two Ranger errors.
The team remained in control, holding the Rangers scoreless and earning another run in the bottom of the fifth to take a comfortable 7-0 lead.
The first run for the Rangers came in the top of the seventh. This would give Regis momentum to put together a strong comeback attempt scoring five more runs in the final innings cutting the lead to 7-6. However the Roadrunners were able to make it out of the final inning, taking the 7-6 victory. Senior
Cale O'Donnell (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) earned the save in the game.
Ortiz led the Roadrunners from the plate going 2-4 in the game.
MSU Denver will take on UCCS at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in Colorado Springs.
