Denver – The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's softball team split the Saturday doubleheader with the Regis Rangers at the Regency Athletic Complex. With the split the Roadrunners remain at .500 with a record of 19-19 overall and a 14-10 record in the RMAC. The Rangers are now 23-13, with an 18-6 record in RMAC play.
In the first game of the afternoon, the Rangers came out looking to avenge the two loses suffered at the hands of the Roadrunners on Friday. Both teams were scoreless through two before the Rangers erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third. Regis opened the scoring with a two-run single by Analece Apodaca. The Rangers would continue scoring with an Allisha Martinez base-clearing double that scored three.
The Roadrunners would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single by
Alyssa Richter. That is all the Roadrunners would muster in game one. The Rangers would add another run in the seventh when Tori Brown hit a homer over the center field fence.
The Roadrunners would turn things around in the second game behind the arm of
Kylee Burnside who pitched a two-hit complete game. Burnside would get a three-run cushion in the first aided by an RBI double by Richter.
Ashlee Kim would add to the lead with an RBI double in the second, scoring
Celyn Whitt. The Roadrunners would add another run in the third before closing out the scoring in the sixth when
Destinee Lopez scored from third on a wild pitch.
The Roadrunners are back in action Saturday, April 7, at noon when they take on Chadron State in a doubleheader at the Regency Athletic Complex.
