Las Vegas, New Mexico- The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team fell 8-4 in game one at New Mexico Highlands.

Highlands was the first to score, making it up on the board in the bottom of the second inning. The Cowboys scored two unearned runs to take a 2-0 lead over the Roadrunners.

The Roadrunners answered back, taking the lead from the Cowboys in the top of the third. Senior
Sean Kennedy (Aurora, Colo./Grandview High School) scored junior
Aaron Germani (Littleton, Colo./ThunderRidge H.S.) for the first run of the game. The next three runs would come from two Roadrunners home runs. Senior Donny Ortiz Jr. hit a two run homer to take the 3-2 lead. Senior
Trent Maloney (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) followed scoring the final run of the game, hitting one out of the park.

The four runs proved to be the last of the scoring for the Roadrunners with the team unable to get much offense going. The Cowboys went on to score six more runs to take the 8-4 win.

Both teams posted 12 hits in the game.

The series will continue with a double header tomorrow with the first game beginning at 12 noon.Â
