Lakewood, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team defeated Colorado Christian 12-4 on Friday afternoon to take game one of the four game series against the Cougars.

Logan Soole (Louisville, Colo./Monarch H.S.) started on the mound for the Roadrunners to hold the Cougars to just two runs in five innings pitched.

MSU Denver was the first to put up runs in the game taking an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second when senior
Sean Kennedy (Aurora, Colo./Grandview High School) was able to score senior
Cale O'Donnell (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) on a sacrifice fly.

The Roadrunners would extend their lead in the second with Senior Donny Ortiz Jr. led off the inning with a double to left field. Soole would follow with a single to score Ortiz and allow the Roadrunners to take a 2-0 lead.

MSU Denver had a huge fourth inning scoring seven runs on the Cougars  five hits. After taking 5-0 lead, Soole fired one out of the park for a three run homer and earning a 8-0 lead. One more run in the inning would extend the Roadrunners lead to 9-0 heading into the fifth.

Colorado Christian was able to make it on the board scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth to cut the lead to 9-3 in favor of the Roadrunners. However, the Roadrunners earned all three runs back in the top of the seventh to regain a nine run lead.

The Roadrunners would allow just one last run from the Cougars to take the 12-4 win.

Soole ended the game going 3-6 from the plate with five RBIs for the Roadrunners. Ortiz went 3-5 in the game.
The Roadrunners will continue the series against Colorado Christian tomorrow in Lakewood. Â
