Colorado Springs, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team earned a 10-7 extra inning win over the Mountain Lions on Sunday afternoon. The Roadrunners improved to 18-17 overall and 14-8 in RMAC play.
Seniors
Trent Maloney (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) and
Sean Kennedy (Aurora, Colo./Grandview High School) both scored home runs in the 10
th inning to secure a 10-7 win for the Roadrunners.
The Roadrunners came out strong out of the gate, knocking in three runs in the top of the first off three hits to take an early 3-0 lead over the Mountain Lions.
MSU Denver extended its lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth. Junior
Draven Adame (Lamar, Colo. /Lamar High School) drew a walk for th Roadrunners and senior Donny Ortiz Jr. would go on to score Adame on a single to right center.
The score remained 4-0 in favor of the Roadrunners until the bottom of the seventh when the Mountain Lions struck, scoring three runs on three hits to cut the lead to 4-3.
The Roadrunners scored two runs in the top of the eighth, but the Mountain Lions would fight back in the bottom of the inning, cutting the lead to 6-4 early in the inning when two reached base on walks. A two run homer tied the game up at six heading into the ninth.
After a scoreless ninth inning the game went into extra innings when the Roadrunners took charge in the 10
th. Ortiz and senior
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) reached base on walks. Maloney then hit one out of the park for a three run homer taking a 9-6 lead.
Sean Kennedy (Aurora, Colo./Grandview High School) followed hitting another bomb for the Roadrunners to extend the lea to 10-6.
MSU Denver held on in the bottom of the inning to secure the 10-7 win over the Mountain Lions.
The Roadrunners will host UCCS on April 20
th at the Regency Athletic Complex.
