Grand Junction, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team fell 17-8 to No. 14 Colorado Mesa on Saturday afternoon to wrap up its four game series against the Mavericks. The Roadrunners fell to 22-26 overall and 18-16 in the RMAC.
MSU Denver held the first lead of the game when junior
Jake Kistaitis hit one out of the park in the top of the fourth inning to score two runs and take a 2-0 lead.
The Roadrunners maintained a 2-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth when Colorado Mesa would put three runs up on the board from a single RBI and a two run homer.
The Mavericks would extend the lead when they scored four runs in the fifth to have a 7-3 edge.
MSU Denver won the sixth inning, cutting the lead down to three runs scoring four runs. Following the Roadrunners loading the bases on two walks and a hit by pitch, junior
Aaron Germani drew another walk to score the first run of the inning. With the bases still loaded freshman Jimmy Hollinger would score the next two runs hitting a single to send Kistaitis and O'Donnell home and cutting the score to 9-6.
The rest of the game the Mavericks outscored the Roadrunners 8-2 to take the 17-8 win.
The Roadrunners will compete in the conference tournament next weekend. Seeds and game times are to be announced.
