Roadrunners fall on walk off homer

Box Score Grand Junction, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team fell in the final inning 7-5 to No. 2 seed Colorado School of Mines in the first game of the RMAC tournament.

MSU Denver came out of the gates ready to play, having the upper hand for most of the game.  Junior Logan Soole started on the mound to pitch eight innings and post a career high 14 strikeouts in the game.

The Roadrunners made it on the board in the first inning following a double from senior Donny Ortiz Jr. to reach base. Senior Hunter Donaldson following with a ground out, scoring Ortiz.

The second run from MSU Denver would come in the next inning when freshman Jimmy Hollinger put up a sacrifice fly to score senior Cale O'Donnell to take a 2-0 lead.

The Roadrunners continued the offensive pressure, while Soole and the Roadrunners defense held the Orediggers scoreless. O'Donnell led off in the top of the fourth with a triple to right field.  Junior Jake Kistaitis grounded out the to score O'Donnell for the first run of the inning. The next two batters for the Roadrunners; juniors Aaron Germani and Draven Adame, hit doubles to reach base for their team.  Hollinger and Ortiz would then put up singles to score both runners to finish the inning with the Roadrunners on top 5-0.

The Orediggers were able to make it on the board in the bottom of the sixth, scoring a three run homer that barely made it out of the park, cutting the lead to 5-3.

Another home run in the bottom of the eighth from Mines would cut the lead down to one at 5-4.

In the bottom of the ninth, things looked promising for the Roadrunners after getting two outs with one on base. However a single would put two runners on base for the Orediggers, RMAC player of the year Mikey Gangwish with a walk-off three-run home run, earning the 7-5 win.
