@MSUDenverTennis: Cameron Claims Wins over Roadrunners

Aggies teams both held higher rankings

LAWTON, Okla. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver tennis teams each dropped duals on Saturday as the faced strong competition on the road against Cameron (Okla.). at the Streich-Henry Family Tennis Complex.

The Roadrunners' men fell 6-1 to Division II's 24th-ranked Aggies, while the women were defeated 5-0 by the team ranked two spots ahead of them in the regional rankings.

"Another disappointing day when you look just at the wins and losses," MSU Denver coach Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) said.

The only point from the MSU Denver men came from Alejandro Martinez-Morilla (Madrid, Spain/I.E. Valdecas), who defeated Oscar del Granado 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Daniel Llorente (Malaga, Spain/) lost in three sets at No. 2 singles, while David Kijak (Aurora, Colo./Odyssey Charter School (Nev.)) had a hard-fought match at No. 4, losing 6-4, 7-5.

"The men right now can't catch a break with close matches," Graetz said. "It's only a matter of time until it turns our way."

The MSU Denver women, ranked fifth in the region, were unable to win a set in singles against the regional No. 3 Aggies. Olivia Kaiser (Aachen, Germany/Bischoefliches Gymnasium St. Ursula, Geilenkirchen) and Eliza McKean (Buderim, Queensland, Australia/Sunshine Coast Grammar School) combined for a 6-4 win over Melany Opolz and Pilar Juraena in No. 3 doubles, but the Aggies won the other two doubles matches to pick up that point

"I thought the women competed really hard today," Graetz said. "Our execution moving forward has really hurt us recently and is a clear goal of ours moving into tomorrow's match."

The MSU Denver women (5-7) face Southern Arkansas (11-3) in a 7 a.m. MDT match Sunday.
