@MSUDenverTennis: Graetz Adds Three to 2019-20 Women's Roster

Division I transfer, Division II transfer, and incoming freshman to join team

DENVER – MSU Denver coach Josh Graetz has announced the addition of three student-athletes to the women's tennis program for the 2019-20 season.

The group includes an NCAA Division I transfer, a Division II transfer, and an incoming freshman.

Metropolitan State University of Denver just finished winning its third straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season championship.

A capsule look at the new recruits:

Gala Castello | Barcelona, Spain | Escola Pia Sarria | North Greenville (S.C.) | Club Tennis Barcino

Coach Josh Graetz: "Gala is a Spanish transfer from North Greenville University, where she played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. This exposure playing against a quality opponent every match will make her battle-hardened when she joins MSU Denver. Not only is she a great player but she also has high goals and expectations for herself and this program. I'm excited to watch her develop."

North Greenville (S.C.):
  • Went 9-12 at No. 1 singles (including 4-5 in Conference Carolinas play) this past season for the NCAA Division II program.
  •  Was 8-13 in doubles, primarily at No. 1, including 5-4 in conference play, this past season.
High School:
  • Won national championships with her team in the 12, 14, 16 and 18 age division.
Sara Iverson | Denver, Colo. | Ecole Oasis Internationale (Cairo, Egypt) | Montana State

Coach Josh Graetz: "Sara is another transfer, from Montana State. Like Gala she has played at a high level throughout college, and she is looking for a program to make an impact. She has some pretty serious weapons from the baseline, which I can see making a difference at the Division II level. Sara has a really vibrant personality and I'm excited for her to join the women's team."

Montana State:
  • Played regularly at No. 5 or No. 6 singles and at No. 2 or No. 3 doubles in the 2019 season for the Bobcats.
  • Saw action in five singles matches in 2018, recording 7-6 (7), 6-4 victory over Seattle's Audrey Scott at No. 6 singles for her first collegiate win.
  • Went 1-3 in doubles play...Posted 7-5 win over Montana at No. 3 doubles.
High School:
  • Member of Gezira tennis team, which was the No. 1-ranked Egyptian program and captured six national championships in 10 years.
  • Participated in six Model United Nations conferences and received "Best Deleguate Award" in four of the six conferences.
  • Made the U18 quarterfinals in the Ahly Madinet at the Nasr Sporting Club, won the U18 tournament at the Palm Hills Club, and was a finalist at the U16 Cairo Stadium Tournament.
Brooklyn Ross | Littleton, Colo. | Chatfield HS

Coach Josh Graetz: "I'm really excited that Brooklyn has chosen to become a Roadrunner. Continuing to bring in local talent is important for the success of the program moving forward. She is a hard worker and I can see her making an immediate impact on the lineup. Her experience in doubles play will also be a huge asset to this team moving forward. "

High School:
  • Four-time All-JeffCo League first team
  • Three-time state qualifier
  • Career-high Colorado ranking: 12
  • Career-high Intermountain ranking: 16
