@MSUDenverWBB: Galloway, Lewis Lead Roadrunners to Road Victory

Galloway's career-high seven steals most by an MSU Denver player since 2010

PUEBLO, Colo. – Jaiden Galloway had a career-high seven steals in a stat-sheet stuffing performance and Morgan Lewis posted her second career double-double as MSU Denver rarely trailed but fought hard to hold off CSU-Pueblo 57-51 Friday night in RMAC women's basketball.

Galloway hounded Thunderwolves ballhandlers while recording seven steals, the most by an MSU Denver player since Kristin Valencia had seven on Dec. 8, 2010.

"She really did an outstanding job of leading us," Metropolitan State University of Denver coach Tanya Haave said. "JaNaiya Davis had 25 points, but she really had to work for them."

Meanwhile Lewis finished with 16 points and a season-high 10 rebounds while making 6 of 10 shots from the field.

"It was great to have Morgan bounce back after she struggled last week," Haave said.

MSU Denver improved to 6-10 overall while moving to 5-5 for a tie for eighth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

There were plenty of other strong performances to go around, too.

Bree Wellington and Mariah Schroeder each had 10 points, while Jaela Richardson pulled down 10 rebounds.

CSU-Pueblo (3-12, 2-8) scored the first three points of the game, but the Roadrunners responded with a 13-0 run for their biggest lead of the game. And though the lead was never any bigger, MSU Denver led for 34:59 of the 40-minute game while trailing for only 2:06.

"Every time we had a chance to pull away, we never quite did," Haave said. "But we got it done. We talked all week about defense, rebounding and competing on the road, and they did that. It was a great win on the road and very much needed."

The Roadrunners play again Saturday at 5 p.m. at New Mexico Highlands (1-14, 0-10).
