USAFA, Colo. – MSU Denver showed some strong moments Sunday in 7-0 exhibition dual defeat at NCAA Division I Air Force.
The Roadrunners won one of three doubles matches to nearly take that point, then played competitively in singles, with two matches going to a super set.
"I'm really proud of our women today," Metropolitan State University of Denver coach
Josh Graetz said. "We came out really strong in doubles and probably should have gotten the point. In singles we competed hard as well, and it was great to see some specifics of what we worked on in practice overlap into matches."
Gala Castello and
Kayla Myburgh combined for a 6-4 win over in No. 3 doubles to give the Roadrunners their lone win of the night.
Tabitha Porter and
Helena Steenberg lost their No. 1 doubles match 6-4, while
Brooklyn Ross and
Mackenzie Hotan were defeated 6-3 at No. 2.
In singles, Castello forced a super set at No. 4 before falling 7-6 (0), 3-6, 10-6 to Kristin Kerrigan. At No. 6,
Ainsley Winterrowd pushed Courtney Swift to a super set in a 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 defeat.
MSU Denver returns to regular season play Feb. 16 with another Division I opponent, traveling to Northern Colorado.
