DENVER – The MSU Denver men's basketball team has a chance to do what few teams get to do.
"We want to finish the season on a two-game winning streak," Metropolitan State University of Denver coach
Michael Bahl said. "Not too many teams getting to finish their season with a win. There's no looking back, only forward, and our emphasis is on Chadron State on Friday night.
"It's at their place, their Senior Night, and they're going to be ready to go. We want to see if we can't finish this off right for all our guys."
The Roadrunners wrap up the season Friday night at 7:30 against Chadron State.
MSU Denver is 11-16 overall and 7-14 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference after picking up a 64-57 win over CSU-Pueblo on its Senior Night on Saturday.
Chadron State is 3-24 overall and 2-19 in the RMAC. The Eagles have lost 14 straight.
MSU Denver has one individual milestone to keep an eye on, as senior guard
Garrett Carter needs just four points to reach 1,000 for his career.
Carter, who averaged 17.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals while committing just two turnovers in 66 minutes of play in two games last weekend, has scored 536 points in two seasons with MSU Denver after scoring 460 in two years at Cal State Los Angeles.
"He'll get it, unless something crazy happens," Bahl said. "It's good for the kid and we're excited for him."
MSU Denver beat Chadron State 82-73 at the Auraria Event Center on Dec. 21, making a season-high 13 3-pointers on only 18 attempts, a 72.2-percent performance that is the program's best in a game since 2014.
"We're a little different than the first time we played them," Bahl said. "We made 13 3s the first time, and Druce (Asah) was playing. (Now injured, Asah made 5 of 6 that night). But for the most part it's the same game plan."
Without giving too much away, the plan is tried and true.
"We want to dominate the paint as much as possible, and most of our shots should come from inside-out," Bahl said.
