LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Gianni Steijlen scored a second-half goal, but MSU Denver was unable to complete its comeback from a 2-0 deficit and fell 3-1 to Colorado Christian in men's soccer on Sunday.
Colorado Christian scored in the sixth minute and the 42
nd minute to build an early lead.
"We keep giving up goals at bad times," MSU Denver coach
Nick Kirchhof said. "We dig ourselves a hole and can't get out of it."
Steijlen answered with his second goal of the season at 50:37 to cut the lead in half. On an assist from
David Pena, Steijlen scored on a blast from about 30 yards out into the low left corner.
Colorado Christian scored just over four minutes later, though, to restore the two-goal advantage.
"That's the story of our season right now," Kirchhof said. "We tune out and make mistakes and other teams are trying harder and outworking us. Unfortunately we're getting what we deserve."
MSU Denver took 12 shots to Colorado Christian's nine and had a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Colorado Christian improved to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while MSU Denver dropped to 4-7-1 and 1-3.
