DURANGO, Colo. – MSU Denver played a man down for nearly the entire second half as well as for all of overtime, but
Aaron Biggerstaff scored at 93:58 to allow the Roadrunners to defeat Fort Lewis 1-0 and complete a 2-0 road weekend that has allowed them to surge to a fifth-place tie in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference table heading into the final weekend of the season.
"I'm incredibly proud of our guys today," MSU Denver coach
Nick Kirchhof said. "We've had some bumps along the way this season and these guys had every opportunity to quit, but they kept pushing. We go into the final weekend with the opportunity to extend our season and that's all we can ask for."
On the game-winner,
Bryson Chiles delivered a free kick into the box and
Alec Nguyen headed it to Biggerstaff, who finished for his third goal of the season.
Now tied for fifth while in pursuit of a top-six finish that would secure a spot in the RMAC Tournament, MSU Denver (7-8-1 overall, 4-4 RMAC) returns home for matches Friday against CSU-Pueblo and Sunday against UCCS.
"Fort Lewis is a tough place to get any result, and to come away with a win is fantastic, especially having to play down a man for as long as we did," Kirchhof said. "We kept fighting and kept believing, and we were able to have one fall our way."
