GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines continued its success against MSU Denver in men's soccer on Friday, following up its 4-0 victory from Sept. 26 with a 5-1 win on Friday.
"Colorado School of Mines is a good team that plays at a faster pace than us and that works harder than us," MSU Denver coach
Nick Kirchhof said. "They deserved to win and deserved to win by that amount.
"We have to be better. I felt like we had a good week of training and that we were motivated, but we went back to doing some of the same things, and giving up too many goals. It's a team issue and not an individual issue. We've got to take a look at ourselves and work harder."
Hernan Ibarra scored for the second straight game, and for the third time this season, on a cross from
Evan Bleyer at 66:40 to cut the deficit to 4-1. Backup goalkeeper
Brady Mangel was credited with two saves in 28 minutes.
"We had some great moments," Kirchhof said. "Evan played well, Hernan scored a great goal, and Brady had some great saves right as he came in. That was exciting to see. They were ready for their opportunity and took advantage of it. We're looking for more guys who are hungry and desperate to contribute."
Mines (9-3 overall, 4-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) had advantages of 21-3 in shots, 12-2 in shots on goal, and 7-2 in corner kicks.
The Roadrunners (4-6-1, 1-2) are back in action Sunday, in a 2:30 p.m. game at Colorado Christian (7-2, 1-2).
"It's another great opportunity to work hard, and to make sure we come out with intensity and purpose," Kirchhof said. "It comes down to how hard we play and how hard we work."
